Working Together To Prevent Underage DrinkingIrvine businesses play an important role in preventing underage drinking! By complying with existing laws, Irvine businesses help make Irvine a safer and healthier community for our youth.
If you are a business owner or manager and you'd like to get involved, please call 949-559-8710 or attend the Irvine Prevention Coalition Underage Drinking Prevention Task Force (UDPTF). The task force meets on the second Thursday of the month at 10:00 am at Heritage Community Park in the Youth Employment Office.
Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Training
The Three Strikes Law requires revocation of an ABC license if an establishment has three violations within three years of selling alcohol to, or permitting consumption of alcohol by, a minor. When businesses train their employees in Responsible Beverage Service (RBS), they help their staff develop the skills and competencies they need to prevent the sale of alcohol to underage persons and helps keep young people safe.
The Irvine Police Department hosts FREE Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (L.E.A.D.) training for Irvine ABC retail and restaurant managers and servers. For information, contact Sgt. Scott McClellan at (949) 724-7280.
Orange County Health Care Agency and the National Council on Drug Dependence (NCADD)/Community Alliance Network host TIPS Training workshop. Read More...
How Irvine Businesses Can Make A Difference
Business owners, managers and employees of stores and restaurants where alcohol is sold or served who enforce all policies and laws with respect to underage youth make a real difference. Other ways that you can help keep young people safe include: 1.) Watching for “shoulder taps” outside the business; 2.) Displaying related information at points of sale and at the register; 3.) Reducing alcohol advertising within the store especially in areas frequented by minors; 4.)Participating in community and family education efforts; and 5.) Contacting the Irvine Police Department whenever you have questions or concerns.
Irvine Business Partnerships
The Business Pledge is designed as a tool for business owners and managers to outwardly express their commitment to preventing underage sales. We invite all Irvine businesses that sell or serve alcohol to support the Irvine Prevention Coalition Underage Drinking Task Force. The first step is to communicate clear expectations with your staff. Use the Business Pledge to start the conversation: 1.) Download and complete the Business Pledge; 2.) Ask each of your employees to initial it. and 3.) Display the Business Pledge in the employee workroom or in some other visible location in your establishment.
